Last Saturday, June 6, 2026, from Wikisphere and in coordination with Medialab Slaughterhouse (@medialabmatadero) in Madrid, we dedicate a day to To make visible in Wikipedia the trajectories of the sicalípticas, artists linked to the cuplé and the culture of varietés who occupied stages, magazines and urban spaces in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century.

Cupletistas, choristers, tiples and variety artists played a prominent role in the cultural life of their time. Through His performances contributed to the transformation of imaginaries about gender, sexuality and urban life, participating in the construction of Spanish cultural modernity. However, many of these women have remained absent from historical accounts and free knowledge.

With this editatona we set out recover part of that legacy on Wikipedia by creating, translating and improving articles related to these artists and the cultural context in which they developed their work.

This activity had the collaboration of Art+Feminism (@artandfem), an international community working to bridging information gaps on gender, feminism and the arts on the Internet, starting with Wikipedia.

To contextualize the theme of the day we have the participation of Gloria G. Durán, PhD in Fine Arts, researcher, teacher and cultural producer.

Duran develops his career in the academic and cultural field. She is a professor at the University of Salamanca, where she teaches in the area of sculpture, and is part of the teaching team of the Master of Permanent Training in Arts and Artistic Professions UC3M-CBA in Escuela SUR. She has been a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid and has participated in projects and stays in New York, Florence, Oakland, Buenos Aires and Mexico City. In addition, he teaches workshops in different cultural and educational spaces. His research on dandism, sicalipsis and countergenre in art has become books.

During your speech presented some of the figures and contexts addressed in his book Sicalyptic. The Great Book of Cuple and the Sicalypse (La Felguera, 2021), a research on cuplé and sicalyptic culture in Spain that analyzes the relationship between spectacle, gender, sexuality and public space, as well as the role of cupletistas in the country's cultural history. At the end of the activity, the participants received a copy of this work, which also served as a reference source for the creation and improvement of articles during the day.
