The gender gap in Wikipedia reflects structural inequalities present in our society. Throughout history, women and other invisible identities have been systematically excluded from knowledge production spaces. At Wikiesfera we work to reverse this reality: We make their contributions visible, encourage their participation and generate safe and collaborative publishing spaces. In doing so, we contribute to a more diverse Wikipedia and a fairer society.
In this line of work we develop and coordinate:
> [ Projects ]
We design and coordinate projects that increase the presence of women in Wikipedia and other spaces of the Wikimedia ecosystem, focusing on historically masculinized or invisible areas. To carry them out, collaboration with institutions and organizations committed to reducing the lack of content on women in different areas of knowledge is key. Together, we work to transform Wikipedia into a fairer and more representative space.

> [ Activities ]
We organize editatones, editing marathons with a gender perspective, face-to-face or virtual, They address gaps in Wikipedia in both content and participation. We always invite experts who provide context on each topic and help understand the impact of women's invisibility in their sector. Also we promote monthly online and asynchronous campaigns, which run for 15 days, and in which we encourage you to create or translate articles on a specific topic. These activities make it possible to expand content on Wikipedia autonomously and flexibly, encouraging sustained participation over time.
> [ Events ]
In addition to content production activities, we see the need to create spaces for analysis and reflection on the gender gap in the Wikimedia Movement. Therefore, since 2017 we have participated in gender-focused meetings such as the WikiWomen Camp or WikiWomen Summit organized in Wikimania, both as assistants and speakers. Inspired by these events, in 2023 we decided to bring together experts and researchers in WikInvisibles to share, discuss and propose actions to achieve a knowledge environment free of gender biases. Also, with the aim of disseminating the project, in 2025 we participated in the V International Congress of Digital Feminism having our presentation Building Wikipedia from a Feminist Perspective: the case of Wikisphere very good reception.
