Last Thursday, February 19, 2026 we were in the Women's Institute (@instmujeres) bringing the workings and potential of Wikipedia closer to a group of young people from 1º Baccalaureate, with the Wikipedia Workshop and Critical Thinking, taught by our colleagues Encina Villanueva y Liliana Alviárez.

We pose the session as a accessible and practical space that would make it possible to understand not only how Wikipedia is edited, but also what it means to participate in the construction of free knowledge. We focused on the impact editing has on women's visibility and how active participation can contribute to reducing existing gaps.

Attended 35 participants, 31 of which were students, who through group work dynamics and a series of open questions, reflected on the relationship between participation and representation of knowledge: who writes?, about whom is it written?, what happens when certain voices are not present? We also address the gender gap in Wikipedia and we analyze data that shows the need to continue promoting spaces for training and editing with a feminist perspective.

Another of the axes of the session was the link between open sources and artificial intelligence. Many questions arose and we found that they still exist. well-established myths about how information is generated in digital environments. It became clear that this is a topic that is worth further deepening, especially with the younger generations.omentar a critical and responsible look at the use and production of content.

The experience confirmed, once again, that bringing the tools of free knowledge closer to youth not only arouses curiosity, but opens up real possibilities for participation and transformation.

The content of this activity and the guide for its implementation will be available in the section Equality Classroom from the website of the Women's Institute, so that teachers can replicate them with their students in any educational center.
