Last Friday, June 30, took place the Canary Islands Artists’ Edition ‘Isla de Arte’ #30J organized by the House of Columbus (@casadecolongc) in coordination with Wikisphere. The activity was carried out within the framework of the exhibition Art Island. A collection for the Museum of Fine Arts of Gran Canaria (@grancanariaisladearte), a sample linked to the background of the Museum of Fine Arts of Gran Canaria organized by the Council of Gran Canaria (@cabildodegrancanaria).

The goal of this editing marathon was make visible the largest number of biographies of Canarian artists present in the exhibition and that they still did not have an article in Wikipedia, despite being relevant figures of the Canarian culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. The curious anecdote took place in the elaboration of the list of names and to discover that all the women whose work was in the sample already had article in Wikipedia thanks, in part, to previous editatonas made to make Canarian women visible in different areas:

On this occasion, during the morning of the day in which the editathon was going to take place, a talk-colloquium with Patricia Horrillo (@PatriHorrillo), founder of Wikisphere (@wikiesfera).

The paper, which was entitled Is it really all on Wikipedia?, aimed to make an introduction on Wikipedia and open a dialogue with the attendees about the possibilities offered by the free encyclopedia as a tool for the dissemination of culture and heritage.
