STEM Women

From his earliest years, Wikiesfera has worked to make visible on Wikipedia the contributions of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We do it through editatonas, campaigns and training programmes, with the aim of reducing the knowledge gap in the free encyclopedia and encouraging the participation of new publishers.

This project is within the gender line of work y we have published (created and translated) hundreds of articles of outstanding references in STEM disciplines, focusing on profiles of Spanish scientists. We collaborate with academic, scientific, cultural and feminist institutions, as well as with networks of researchers, thus expanding the scope of our actions. Many of them have been linked to key dates such as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February), on Inventor's Day (November 9) or the Science and Innovation Week.

Projects such as Aspasia the Government of Aragon or Women in energy and environment, from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, have incorporated this specific view towards reference profiles in STEM. We also collaborate with entities such as the Digital Gender Gap Chair of the University of Valencia or the PRISMA Association. Finally, having invited experts allows us to contextualize the contents and strengthen the feminist and diversity approach. Thanks to this collective work, Wikipedia in Spanish is moving towards a fairer and more plural representation of knowledge in the STEM field.
