The Coexistence Code contains the parameters that govern daily coexistence in the Wikisphere group in a framework of tolerance, solidarity, respect and responsibility.

The Wikiesfera community includes all our editors, participants in regular meetings, workshops and events, trainers, staff and invited experts. The purpose of the rules contained in this Code is to ensure an adequate climate of respect, as well as commitment and sorority, necessary for the proper functioning of the group. They are mandatory and complement the existing internal regulations of Wikiesfera, as well as the safe spaces policy and the code of conduct. Repeated non-compliance with these rules may result in expulsion from Wikisphere meeting spaces.

> Vision

Wikiesfera's vision is to build a feminist community committed to social justice that removes systemic biases from knowledge spaces like Wikipedia.

> Our values

Our values underpin everything we do, how we work with other people and how we behave and communicate, to successfully achieve our vision.

  • Care of the collective: Take care of work-life balance, and encourage team members and the community to prioritize taking care of themselves and others. Avoid as far as possible situations and conditions of precariousness that may lead to the exploitation of the people of our community.
  • Trust: Be brave and make a conscious effort to recognize our vulnerabilities and value our strengths while challenging ourselves and others to improve through self-reflection and empathetic mutual feedback.
  • Collective responsibility: Collectively agree on the objectives and create spaces for those who are part of the team and the community to participate and lead the decision-making processes on equal terms and in a transparent way.
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion: Recognize, celebrate and promote diversity in the group by expanding our worldview beyond the Global North. Facilitate access to the necessary resources and opportunities, taking into account different starting points and different needs. This means that we are committed to ensuring that there is no discrimination on any of the following grounds: age, disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and motherhood, race, physical appearance or religion.
  • Power distribution: Use and share our power responsibly to transform systems and facilitate equal opportunities. Harnessing individual and collective power to create spaces for women. Recognize the work of other women and engage ethically and non-extractively with group members and the community.
  • Open knowledge: Knowledge is a public good that benefits everyone and contributes to the development of a fairer and more equal society.
  • Happy co-creation: Create, foster and ensure a space of collaboration and mutual respect where people enjoy meeting.
  • Feminism: Recognize, honor and stand in solidarity with the feminist movement to create lasting change and impact regarding the gender gap, knowledge gaps and social justice. We are feminists and we generate knowledge that transcends us individually, in search of a collective good that positively impacts all women.

> Standards

  • The respect at all times and the right treatment towards the comrades and any other member of the community, not allowing, in any case, any type of aggression, physical or verbal violence, acts of harassment, humiliation, discrimination, contempt, disruption or any vexatious behavior towards any person in our community. Also, respect the privacy of others, their time and the work they are doing.
  • The beware and respect for all facilities and of the material that Wikiesfera makes available to the community.
  • Active and respectful listening: Listen when someone shares their ideas. Interrupting others prevents you from having smooth conversations. Do not occupy all the space and time with our opinion, and make it easier for other people to participate in the group conversation.
  • Encourage a self-learning space: Share the knowledge acquired with the community. The goal is to learn together, not replicate vertical and authoritarian teaching models. Regular meetings do not teach passive participants or monopolize people, ask questions and resolve doubts in a collaborative and peer-to-peer manner.
  • Presuming good faith: Understand that people make contributions with the aim of learning and improving, and that their intentions are positive for the group and the work being done.
  • Generate a calm and positive work climate. Maintain or channel debates within a healthy and mutually enriching environment. Help other people and ask for help when needed.
  • Good hostesses: Be especially kind and patient with new people who may come and need a little more guidance and advice. Show them our vision and values, and share our experiences constructively.
  • Do not interfere with other events that may be happening in the same space, or with the proper performance of the routine activity of the space in which we are. Respect the established opening and closing times of the space.
  • Talking with kindness and empathy, not shouting, not talking on the phone aloud within the meeting space or listening to loud music without headphones.
  • Consult with the equipment before altering the physical conditions of the space (change the temperature of the air conditioning or heating, change the furniture of place, do some noisy activity, etc.). Collaborate in the maintenance, order and cleanliness of the space when necessary.
