On Saturday, March 5, 2016, an activity was held in Medialab-Prado (@medialabprado) which bore the name Editatona on women photographers on Wikipedia #5M’. We have the presence of Snow Lemon (@nieves_limon) of the collective Gender and Figure (@generoyfigura) that tries to make visible the work and life of photographers. Here you can read the summary they have made about the activity. He also visited us Miguel Ángel Ramírez (@mangelrp), programmer and Wikipedian who came from Seville to support the activity, talking about the the pillars on which Wikipedia is based and of the gender gap in this environment.

> Collaborative Editatona

This editatone, as some already call it Feminist organizations in Mexico, or editing marathon on women's content on Wikipedia, also had an experimental part: instead of getting many together and each editing something different, we raised the possibility of writing texts collaboratively by creating a series of pads in which information is poured and the text is elaborated before taking the step of uploading it to Wikipedia.

Since the start of the working group Wikisphere, the purpose of which is break with the fears we feel when approaching a wiki environment and value individual contributions to the collective storytelling of history, we have seen that the really difficult thing is not to learn how to use the tool (which with the visual editor It is becoming easier and more intuitive), but creating the content. Many times, the lack of references in the media about women hinders the work of creating the articles.

This proposal of editatona clashes with the traditional editathons in which the creation of a large number of entries is fundamentally sought in a short time. Quantity takes precedence over quality and even interaction between participants. And it fosters a certain competitive spirit with which from Wikiesfera we do not commune. Although the format is useful, it misses a valuable opportunity to create networks of publishers with greater continuity and that the experience of the day itself is more enriching.

> Acknowledgements

The success of this meeting has been enormous. We got to meet 50 people editing new articles and doing translations of existing articles on other Wikipedias. Of the people who came, many have joined the Wikisphere working group so we will grow a little more in our weekly meetings. Thank you all for coming, learning, sharing and having fun together. Repeat =)

In addition, at noon we have a catering in charge of the equality area of the City Council of Madrid that helped a lot so that the spirits did not decay and the majority stayed also during the afternoon. We also did a raffle of books about feminism and photographers among the participants of the editatona thanks to donations from the Equality Area, Oxfam Intermón, the Gender and Figure collective, and the Wikimujeres user group.

For all this, I want to thank the people who have pushed for this activity to go ahead, which would not have been possible without the Collaboration from Gender and Figure (@generoyfigura), the group of users Wikiwomen (@Wikimujeres_EN), the working group Fourth Own on Wikipedia (@quartopropiowik), Wikimedia United Kingdom (@wikimedia) and the Wikimedia Foundation (@Wikimedia), and support of the Directorate-General for Equality between Women and Men the City Council of Madrid@DG_Equality) and of Oxfam Intermon (@OxfamIntermon).
