In June 2018, the German international cooperation agency Deutsche Welle Akademie Latin America contacted Wikiesfera to analyze the development of a project in Ecuador. The objective was the making visible and strengthening the worldview of the indigenous peoples and nationalities of Ecuador through the training of editors linked to a local partner: the Coordinator of Popular and Educational Community Media of Ecuador (CORAPE). Thus began the "We Take The Wiki" project that ran for 6 months (between September 2018 and March 2019) with excellent results in terms of participation and content production. In addition, an alliance was also established with Category: Ecuadorian Wikimedians which participated as a local User Group.

The goal of "We Take The Wiki" was make known the culture, identity, history, gastronomy, music of the peoples and nationalities indigenous the Ecuadorian on digital platforms such as CORAPE Virtual Documentation Center and Wikipedia in Spanish. The first as a source of research and production of journalistic pieces prepared by the same representatives of the original peoples; and the second as a platform of construction of collaborative knowledge to correct the erroneous contents that describe their cultures and narrate their identity from the voice of the protagonists.

In the months that this pilot project lasted, Wikiesfera was present at the talks and introductory workshops in various locations in Ecuador. In addition, several editathons were made (editing marathons about Ecuadorian women, local cuisine,...) and a final marathon on topics that participants had researched during the months of the project. Among the 45 participants, they were represented six villages (Otavalo, Waranka, Puruhá, Afro-Ecuadorian, Sapara and Mestizo) and six nationalities (Kichwa and Amazon Kichwa, Kitu Kara, Épera, Chachi, Awá and Shuar) from Ecuador.
