A project for capacity building of the territorial nodes of Wikisphere funded by the Ministry of Culture
Wikiesfera promotes since 2015 a network of feminist communities that work for reducing the gender gap on Wikipedia and to promote the production of free knowledge from a perspective intersectional. Between 2025 and 2026 it will consolidate the network at state level through a accompaniment adapted to the level of maturity of each group, strengthening the interterritorial coordination and the organisational autonomy of the nodes.

With the project Creating Free Knowledge Communities with a Feminist Approach, the goal is clear, we seek ensure that local communities can sustain active feminist publishing spaces over time, with shared methodology and own organisational capacity. It will be developed for nodes of Madrid, Aragon (Zaragoza), Galicia (Vigo) and Asturias, and includes itinerant actions in other territories in the process of birth or consolidation.
He's here. funded by the Ministry of Culture, within the framework of the call for aid for cultural projects with special social impact, and has the Wikimedia Foundation co-funding.
> Project design
The project is structured as a common network strengthening framework, based on three pillars:
1. Organisational support
Reinforcement of internal cohesion, planning and sustainability of territorial nodes.
2. Shared methodology
Development of the Wikisphere Formula Methodology Kit, which will systematize more than a decade of experience in creating feminist publishing communities. This will be a transferable tool, built from the practice of the network and the needs detected in each node.
3. Horizontal governance
Model based on co-responsibility, collective exchange and methodological accompaniment of motor equipment.
This design allows to adapt the work to the level of maturity of each node, ensuring common coherence respecting local processes.
> Activities and impact
The project includes the following actions:
- Regular accompaniment to territorial nodes to support capacity building according to their needs.
- Strategic identification of representation gaps in Wikipedia to work on content of interest in each community
- Joint coordination of Wikipedia editing events including face-to-face editing and virtual campaigns.
- Systematization of common learning obtained collaboratively through accompaniment sessions, virtual meetings and editing activities.
These activities will allow accompanying people are part of the active nodes in each city, incorporate new publishers to the network and to expand the publication and improvement of Wikipedia content with a feminist focus. Likewise, the project will support the methodological transfer that will strengthen the feminist state network of free knowledge.
Beyond the content generated, we want to ensure that this network has the necessary capabilities to sustain over time communities dedicated to the production of knowledge diverse, plural and equitable.
