From Wikisphere we launch a campaign to make the women of cinema visible on Wikipedia. For two weeks we will work virtual and asynchronous for create, translate and improve articles about directors, screenwriters, producers, actresses and other professionals in the audiovisual sector who still do not have the representation they deserve in the free encyclopedia.

This activity is part of the project “Creating free knowledge communities with a feminist approach”, subsidized by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and co-financed by the Wikimedia Foundation, with which we work for reduce the gender gap in knowledge, strengthen our publishing community and consolidate existing spaces, opening up new opportunities for both first-time entrants and reinforce the editing work carried out by the territorial nodes of Wikisphere. The goal is expand the network and enable more women to participate autonomously and flexibly.

March is a month especially linked to cinema, because the Oscar Awards are held and, in Spain, the last edition of the Goya Awards has just taken place and the Malaga Festival begins. We take advantage of this context to bring that conversation to Wikipedia and ask ourselves which names are missing and which trajectories need greater visibility..
