Editatona of Wikipedia in Madrid within the project "Free Knowledge Communities with a Feminist Approach"

From Wikisphere, coordinated and subsidised by the Ministry of Culture under the project “Creating free knowledge communities with a feminist approach”, we invite you to participate in the editatona on Cultural Rights.

One editatone or editing marathon is a collaborative activity to create and improve content on Wikipedia, reducing the gender gap and making women's contributions visible history, culture and society.

On this occasion, the day will be focused on the creation and translation of articles on the diversity, participation and representation of women in the field of cultural rights, contributing to expanding its presence on Wikipedia and making its contributions to culture and cultural policies visible. During the session we will work both practical aspects of editing and translation and the publication of content, in a space of collective learning y collaborative.

This activity seeks bringing the framework of cultural rights closer to free knowledge, contributing to expanding and diversifying the content available on Wikipedia and making visible women and other voices who have played a relevant role in the cultural field and who are still underrepresented in the free encyclopedia. And, is part of the accompaniment we are doing to consolidate communities committed to free knowledge with a gender perspective.

This time we will have the participation of Jasmine Beirak Ulanosky, Director-General for Cultural Rights of Ministry of Culture, who will open the day with an intervention on the importance of cultural rights and their role in the construction of a diverse, participatory and representative culture.

Beirak Bachelor of Arts in History and Theory of Art by the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), graduated in Advanced Studies in History and Theory of Art (UAM) and career official.

Cultural manager, researcher in cultural policies and expert in cultural rights. From this field he has always developed his political activity, in the last legislatures as Member of Parliament and spokesperson for culture at the Madrid Assembly. As a cultural manager, has worked at the National Library Museum with functions of curatorship, didactics and management of public activities, and has participated in various research projects such as Art and Transition (Brumaria, 2012) or Horizons of Art in Spain (YGBArt, 2013), both in collaboration with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. She has given several lectures and teaching on master's degrees in cultural rights and has published on cultural policy in various general and specialized media.

She is also the author of Ungovernable Culture (Ariel, 2022) on culture and cultural policies.

On 28 March 2024, she was appointed Director-General for Cultural Rights.

This editatone is aimed at anyone interested in Making Women's Lives and Contributions Visible on Wikipedia. No prior knowledge required but yes you must bring your laptop.
