Results of Women of Zarzuela II

Presentation of the results of the second edition of the project at the Women's Institute

On June 24th we presented at the Women's Institute the results of the second edition of Women of Zarzuela, the project that since 2024 promote the Teatro de la Zarzuela y Wikisphere to recover the memory of women in Spanish lyrics. The Institute hosted the event highlighting its connection with the policies of equality, culture and democratic memory, recalling that women barely represent the 13th% from the Wikipedia publishing community.

  • Isamay Benavente, Director of the Teatro de la Zarzuela, shared recovered stories such as that of Romualda Moriones, a theatrical entrepreneur in 19th-century Mexico, or Gloria Laguna y Emerita Esparza, harassed and unfairly flagged after a fire in the theatre itself at the beginning of the 20th century.
  • From Wikisphere, Patricia Horrillo presented the three-month training developed in Wikilearn that has allowed to go from specific editions to the creation of a stable publishing community, with more than 70% of completion between the registered persons.
  • The National Library of Spain, through Teresa Delgado (Director of the Department of Music), highlighted decades of digitization of musical heritage and her commitment to continue collaborating and taking the project to other institutions.
