Lesbian Visibility in Queering Wikipedia 2025

Encina Villanueva and Celia Hernández participated

On 24 and 25 October 2025, the Queering Wikipedia Conference(QW25), an international meeting organised by Wikimedia LGBT+ that brings together people from the LGBTQ+ community and allies of the Wikimedia movement. Streamed live through the Wikimedia LGBT+ YouTube channel, the event aimed to strengthen global connections within the community and reflect on how to make Wikimedia projects more inclusive and representative spaces.

In this edition, Wikiesfera participated with the talk The visibility of lesbians on Wikipedia: analysis and strategies, taught by our colleagues Encina Villanueva y Celia Hernandez, who have spent several years analyzing the representation of lesbians in the encyclopedia and sharing strategies to improve their presence in the content. Both are the authors of the articles of disclosure Visibility of lesbians on Wikipedia y The visibility of lesbians in Wikipedia II which gave rise to this meeting.

Since its first edition in 2019, Queering Wikipedia has established itself as a space for collective encounter and learning, evolving towards increasingly accessible and participatory formats that expand international collaboration and reinforce the movement's commitment to diversity and knowledge equity.

We share the video from this talk below.
