We are excited to share a news that fills us with pride: Wikiesfera has been awarded a Lovie Award in the Special Achievement category! Wikiesfera receives this important recognition for the significant impact of our project on the European digital ecosystem, and reaffirms us in continuing to fight for TOGETHER combat the gender gap on Wikipedia.
What are The Lovie Awards?
The awards The Lovie Awards, Established in 2010, they recognise the most prominent European projects in categories including web design, social media, apps and digital video, among others. To be awarded a Lovie Award in the category of Special Achievement in recognition of our community makes us particularly proud for what we have achieved from Wikisphere in this decade of life. This award highlights the power of technology to change narratives, uniting community, activism and creativity to achieve a more inclusive and diverse internet.
Why is this award important for Wikisphere?
Since our founding in 2015, Wikiesfera has had a clear goal: close the gender gap on Wikipedia and build a feminist community that fights for social justice in digital knowledge. We find ourselves in a space that has historically left out the voices of women and other minority identities. Through our efforts, we have mobilized more than 2,000 people in Spain, Ecuador and Portugal and, together, we have created and improved about 2,000 articles on Wikipedia dedicated to the visibility of women and women's health issues. This not only contributes to a more egalitarian Wikipedia, but also preserves and amplifies the legacy of women who have been made invisible in history.
Feminists in Wikipedia drive knowledge equity worldwide
A collective celebration
This Lovie Award is not just an achievement for us, but for all people who believe in the need for a feminist and diverse Wikipedia. It reminds us that, as a community, we are able to challenge the status quo, and drives us to continue working for a fair representation of all voices in digital spaces.
This recognition further motivates us to continue on our path and strengthen our network. We will continue fighting for a bias-free Wikipedia and for a digital knowledge that integrates all people.
