Session on the Charter of the Movement

Last Wednesday, May 24, 2023, we had as a guest Pepe Flores, President of Wikimedia Mexico, who spoke to us about the Letter from the Movement. The objective was to bring the Wikisphere community closer to this collaborative development process that is being carried out to review the governance model of the Wikimedia movement.

• The Letter from the Movement It is a document that will clarify the responsibilities and relationships between all members of the Wikimedia movement. It will also lead to the implementation of new structures and new decisions (e.g.: Hubs).

• Since the Wikimedia movement began, all related projects and responsibilities have grown organically. The development of the Movement Charter is intended to be a revision of this governance model, and the final Charter will provide standard guidelines and processes to ensure that the movement remains aligned. The Charter is important because it will be an essential document for the implementation of the recommendations of the 2030 strategy. That's why it must align closely with the direction needed for the Wikimedia movement for at least the next decade.
