In this 3rd meeting of the working group we were discussing the editathon, an activity in which several people come together with the aim of creating new content on Wikipedia, and that from the working group will be held on March 7 as an activity related to International Women's Day. Our proposal seeks make a mapping on the absence of content related to women, and we put the weight of the meeting in the process of creating content in a collaborative way.
We were developing a series of proposals of how we could structure the day so that in those five hours we get the most out of the meeting for which we drafted a program. In addition, we plan to prepare and deliver to anyone who participates some basic help document for editing on Wikipedia:
- what is the structure of the different types of articles: biography, event, work, concept;
- what is considered a reference;
- what are free licenses for images illustrating the entry, etc.;
The objective of this small dossier will be to facilitate the development of the activity and also serve as a connection with this collaborative editing and documentation working group.
> Non-face-to-face participation in the editathon
In addition, we put on the table the possibility of integrate people who cannot physically attend the meeting And we think of formulas to help that virtual participation. From collaborative pads with different proposals to those we make in Medialab (and that are developed in parallel, without our help or intervention, and thus also be able to compare both processes), to concrete requests for help in terms of references, data, dates, etc. to complement those entries that are being developed by the face-to-face groups.
Although we are clear that willingness to participate the more people, the better, we will have to value the time that this can take us and if it is feasible to do so without undermining the face-to-face part which, on that day, is the important one to attend so that new encounters can take place.
