Session 2: Collective development and programming. Wiki environment space in process

In this second meeting of the working group we talked about the structure of 15Mpedia.org with wiki semantics, which allows cross-referencing data and facilitating the relationship between different contents. We saw that the way of developing collectively has many similarities with programming in UNIX, LINUX philosophy, establishing similarities about the hive mind as a kind of market, as told in the story The Cathedral and the Bazaar. We perceive the wiki environment, in general, as a triumph of the collective will, which contributes positively to the common.

In 15Mpedia has been added a tab with the chat, which allows more help for people who feel lost in this environment and need some punctual support. And we talked about the possibility of censoring an article: a page can be removed by form or content; agreements are reached in terms of what may or may not go on the wiki. In the case of 15Mpedia, we make it clear that we are a documentation space, so there is no room for entries to develop ideas, to be done elsewhere and with other tools.

> Wiki environment, a space in process

We have also realized that, however much we may be told that a wiki is in constant process of being built, as users We read your articles like a book, like something finished, closed... That is why many people complain, protest, complain, when they see that something is missing or left over on a page, instead of going into editing. Also It means less effort and responsibility to ask others to do the work than to do it yourself. (for which, one should document oneself, look for information, references, etc.). We wonder if it would be interesting to warn permanently and without leaving room for doubt that wikis are "processes", something unfinished and that any contribution is positive, necessary, etc.

As for quality, the important thing in a wiki is the references of an article, a work already done by someone. To approach a new entry, for example, to create it about a collective, you have to question yourself and ask yourself a number of key questions: what it is, how it is defined, etc.
