Aiming to drive change for a more inclusive Wikimedia movement, during the WikiWomen Camp 2023<\/a> <\/strong>In India, a declaration was drafted containing a number of keys aimed at fostering a more diverse and equitable community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We reproduce below the six recommendations<\/strong> to achieve effective gender equity within the Wikimedia movement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Establishment of a working group or task force (Task Force<\/em>) for the prioritization of gender equity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We recommend the creation of a working group dedicated to supporting and advancing all efforts related to the prioritization of equity within the Wikimedia Movement. For gender imbalances to be effectively addressed and equity promoted within the movement, this group must involve all stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Policy development for balanced representation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We support the creation of clear and quantifiable policies that advocate for gender balance. In this sense, it is advisable to establish a minimum representation of 33% of women+ on the boards of thematic organisations and chapters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Inclusion of women+ in teams receiving Wikimedia Foundation grants<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is recommended that women+ be required to be part of all Wikimedia Foundation scholarship teams. In this way, it will be possible to ensure that a greater range of perspectives is incorporated that enrich the results of the projects.1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Establishment of support structures for partners<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To foster an environment that encourages and supports people working on gender wiki projects, we propose the creation of specific support structures that offer them community support and meet their training needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Development of guidelines and support for sustainable resources<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We advocate the development of comprehensive guidelines and support frameworks that enhance gender equity initiatives with sustainable resources. This includes both financial, technical and community support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Commitment to global coordination<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We must commit to global integration, transcending borders and regions to work collectively towards a common goal. Our goal is to create a global network that aligns with the Wikimedia Movement's mission to make knowledge free and accessible to all people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
