On Saturday, March 5, 2016, an activity was held in Medialab-Prado<\/strong> (@medialabprado<\/a>) which bore the name Editatona on women photographers on Wikipedia #5M\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. We have the presence of Snow Lemon<\/strong> (@nieves_limon<\/a>) of the collective Gender and Figure<\/strong><\/a> (@generoyfigura<\/a>) that tries to make visible the work and life of photographers. Here you can read<\/a> the summary they have made about the activity. He also visited us Miguel \u00c1ngel Ram\u00edrez<\/strong> (@mangelrp<\/a>), programmer and Wikipedian who came from Seville to support the activity, talking about the the pillars on which Wikipedia is based<\/strong> and of the gender gap<\/strong> in this environment.<\/p>\n\n\n

> Collaborative Editatona<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n

This editatone<\/em>, as some already call it Feminist organizations in Mexico<\/a>, or editing marathon on women's content on Wikipedia, also had an experimental part: instead of getting many together and each editing something different, we raised the possibility of writing texts collaboratively<\/strong> by creating a series of pads in which information is poured and the text is elaborated before taking the step of uploading it to Wikipedia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of the working group Wikisphere<\/a><\/strong>, the purpose of which is break with the fears we feel when approaching a wiki environment and value individual contributions to the collective storytelling of history<\/strong>, we have seen that the really difficult thing is not to learn how to use the tool (which with the visual editor<\/a> It is becoming easier and more intuitive), but creating the content. Many times, the lack of references in the media about women hinders the work of creating the articles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This proposal of editatona clashes with the traditional editathons in which the creation of a large number of entries is fundamentally sought in a short time. Quantity takes precedence over quality and even interaction between participants.<\/strong> And it fosters a certain competitive spirit with which from Wikiesfera we do not commune. Although the format is useful, it misses a valuable opportunity to create networks of publishers with greater continuity<\/strong> and that the experience of the day itself is more enriching<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
