Last Saturday, June 20, 2026, from Wikisphere and in coordination with<\/strong> Medialab Slaughterhouse<\/a><\/strong> (@medialabmatadero<\/a>) in Madrid, we dedicate a day to make visible on Wikipedia a<\/strong> Baroque, Mystical and Saphic Women<\/strong><\/strong>, in the context of the conclusion of the International LGBT Pride Day<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of 23 attendees created articles of women, cultural products, networks of activism and concepts<\/strong> related to three premises: the Baroque centuries (at least as a priority, although the time frame was broader), religions and lesbianism. Areas that, put in relation, are little known and difficult to investigate but, undoubtedly, relevant to our history and genealogy and that connect with one of the objectives we have in Wikisphere: improve the way lesbians and their relationships appear on Wikipedia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this editatona we wanted to recover part of that legacy in Wikipedia through the creation, translation and improvement of articles <\/strong>related to them. Here you can see a video summarizing the day<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The activity was organized within the framework of the international campaign Wiki Loves Pride<\/a><\/strong>, driven by Wikimedia LGBT<\/strong><\/a> (@wmlgbt.org<\/a>), a group of users who support the LGBT+ community and represent LGBT+ content<\/strong> in Wikimedia projects and with whom we regularly collaborate in the creation of content for the Wikiproject:LGBT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

To contextualize the day we have the participation of The Daughters of Philip@<\/a>lashijasdefelipe<\/a>)<\/strong>, Ana Garriga and Carmen Urbita. PhD colleagues at Brown University (Providence, United States), in 2020 launched their podcast<\/a> about history and literature that became \u2018a space where the most remote corners of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and the most impenetrable gaps of the present overlap in a strategic anachronism<\/strong> to suggest unsuspected cavilations and connections<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together they have written Instruction of novices. Lives of the Baroque convent to guide your present<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (Blackie Books, 2026), convinced that \u201ceverything that is happening to you already happened to someone (probably a nun) in the 16th and 17th centuries\u201d. That was the book that those who attended the editatona took away and that also served as a reference source for the creation and improvement of articles on the day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

During their speech, Ana Garriga and Carmen Urbita told us about their work on Baroque convent culture. We talked to them about the critical fabulations<\/strong>, your proposal for imagine possible pasts from textual indicia,<\/strong> instead of imposing hegemonic readings on the archive or resigning oneself to the silence of the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Daughters of Philip defend the Document scouring<\/strong> and remember that all historical construction has something imaginative: If a courteous love sonnet is read as heterosexual practice no one questions it, but if the two people are women, the sentimental gesture is automatically reduced to mere \"poetic format\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through concrete cases (\"Las Ca\u00f1itas\", processed inquisitorially or the relationship between Ana de Jes\u00fas and Beatriz de la Concepci\u00f3n) the researchers showed us that Lesbian in the convent was not a rarity but a known reality <\/strong>and to some extent standardised. The convent emerges as a paradoxical space: Despite the Baroque's intractable gender gap, segregation generated forms of female self-government where intellectual development, affective bonds and care between women flourished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
