Wikipedia, like the rest of the projects of the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fundaci%C3%B3n_Wikimedia\" target=\"_blank\">Wikimedia Foundation<\/a>, also suffers: <b><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ris.org\/uploadi\/editor\/1305050082Wikipedia_Overview_15March2010-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">less than 13% of editors of the free encyclopedia are women<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An unfriendly editing interface, aggressiveness in the debates, a sexist and even misogynistic atmosphere, lack of free time or little social interaction in the projects, are some of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/suegardner.org\/2011\/02\/19\/nine-reasons-why-women-dont-edit-wikipedia-in-their-own-words\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>multiple factors that are identified as causes of gender inequality<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"632\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Gender_gap_in_Wikipedia_animation.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3248\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This exclusion implies <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Countering_systemic_bias\/Gender_gap_task_force\" target=\"_blank\">direct consequences on content<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>less coverage of women-related topics and articles,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lower quality of the same and presence of intrinsic biases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>May we be <strong>more than half of the world's population<\/strong> <strong>but we're not contributing<\/strong> to the collective documentation of history, is one more consequence of the <strong> invisibility of women in public life<\/strong>, underrepresented in the media and in other spaces that prevent us from being able to build and publish their biographies on Wikipedia based on reliable sources that prove their relevance. In <strong>Spanish Wikipedia only about 25% of the articles are or deal with women's issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to research, in Spanish Wikipedia, 26.8% words in women's biographical articles refer to gender conditions or personal and family relationships (woman, wife, mother...); However, in the articles of men this circumstance only happens in a 3.8% of words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiesfera.org\/en\/maratones-edicion\/\">editing marathons with a gender perspective: editatones<\/a><\/strong> we share all this data to make us more aware of <b>the need to progressively and methodically change this situation of inequality<\/b>.
